SPMA had 6 students fight in an amateur kickboxing show in Tahmoor called the Bush Bash on Saturday 24th July with 4 of the students winning. They all made their debuts. Juro Jezercic, Luke Standing, Peter Andrews and Matt Heness all won their matches by decision. Brett Kent and Harrison Ng Chok lost their matches by decision but put in a great performance. Thanks to all the SPMA students who came to support!
SPMA student Shane Nix fought Manuel Rodriguez at the Impact FC show in Sydney on Sunday July 18th. The show was an international event shown on pay per view around the world. Shane dominated the first 4 minutes with strikes, takedowns and ground and pound. Manuel then slipped on a tight choke and won by submission. Elvis Sinosic was the commentator for the Impact FC show.

Ricardo Pantcho Feliciano taught a BJJ class at the Concord and Liverpool schools. He is a BJJ black belt under Leo Viera and team mate of Robert Drysdale and has won many BJJ titles.

SPMA had 3 students fight the last weekend of June. Candice Lowe lost a close decision in her second Thai Kickboxing match on the Central Coast. Gerhard Voight won by guillotine choke in his first pro MMA match at TUFFA 5 on the Central Coast. And Shane Nix lost his match at FATE in the second round after dominating for the first one and half rounds.
SPMA had 3 students compete in the World BJJ Championships in Long Beach California in June. Ben Power lost his fist black belt match in the last 30 seconds after being ahead on points. John Smallios won his first 2 matches and lost his third in the blue belt division. And Shaher Khan won 3 matches and lost the quarterfinal match narrowly. If he won that match and made the semi final he would have been guaranteed of a medal.
SPMA send a small team of competitors to the NSW BJJ State Titles. A team of 6 kids and 8 adults from SPMA Concord and Liverpool competed. SPMA brought back 3 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals! Anthony Capano, Liam Buchanan and Steve Maljkovic won gold; Bora Atli, Luke Standing, Abel Brites and Greg Criticos won silver and Kooper Buchanan, Katarina Rosso and Adam Assuncao won bronze. Firas Hamden, Reggie Gounder, Nuri Atli and Loughlin Richards also competed and put in good performance but missed out on the medals.
SPMA have teamed up with the Pine Inn. All over 18 year old SPMA students can now pick up SPMA/Pine Inn Memberships cards from SPMA and use it at the Pine Inn to receive discounts, vouchers and prizes.

SPMA Chief Instructor Anthony Perosh had shoulder surgery on the 29th June. He will be away for 2 weeks from SPMA. It will be about 4-6 months for a full recovery. Chief Instructor Elvis Sinosic is now 2 months post shoulder surgery and recovery is going well.

SPMA is proud to support Giant Steps which is an organisation that helps children with Autism. An SPMA student who has a child with Autism asked if SPMA would support this great organisation and we said yes. They have their big fundraiser ball on 19th June. Chief instructors Anthony Perosh & Elvis Sinosic are directors of Events BJJ. Events BJJ held their 5th event on 8th May and set a NSW record with 355 BJJ competitors registered. You can see the full results and photos on their website.
SPMA student Shane Nix made his comeback to MMA after 18 months off due to knee injury. Shane won by TKO in the 3rd round on the 18th May Immortality show at the State Sports centre. Shane's record is now 8 wins and 1 loss.
Ten SPMA students competed in the Thai Kickboxing sparring day at Bulldog Gym Leichhardt on 22nd May. Well done to all the competitors.

Chief Instructor Anthony Perosh had knee surgery on 31/3/10 to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. Anthony is now 4 weeks post op and will be back on the mat in 2 weeks 100%! Chief Instructor Elvis Sinosic had shoulder surgery 22/4/10 and has just started his rehab.
SPMA student Fred Chahroura fought for the 84kg title on the TUFFA MMA show in Newcastle on 17/4/10. Fred put in a good performance but lost a close decision. SPMA student Michael Ramondino was supposed to fight but his opponent pulled out 2 days before the show.
SPMA students Shaher Khan and John Smallios ran a very successful in house BJJ competition at SPMA Concord. A total of 40 students from both SPMA schools competed in a repecharge style competition. The competition had intensity but was friendly at the same time. And a little bit of Concord-Liverpool rivalry came out too! This was the first of many in house BJJ comps.
SPMA student Candice Lowe fought in her first Pro Thai Kickboxing match at Nowra on Saturday 24th April. She won a unanimous decision. Well done Candice!

Chief Instructor Anthony Perosh has knee surgery on 31/3/10 to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. Anthony will be back on the mat soon as it's a minor surgery. Chief Instructor Elvis Sinosic has shoulder surgery 22/4/10. The rehab will be a little longer. Elvis will also be away for 2 weeks the first half of April on a holiday to Thailand.

SPMA students Shaher Khan and John Smallios are running an in house BJJ competition on Saturday 24/4/10 from 1pm. It is only $10.00 entry. It's a great way to get competition experience whether you are a beginner or advanced student.
SPMA put in big teams in the NSWBJJ Federation comp on 13/3/10 and the ISKA comp on 14/3/10. Big congratulations to everyone who competed.
A number of SPMA students competed at the sparring days at Bulldog gym in Leichhardt in February and Bulldog gym in Manly in March. Big congrats to everyone who competed.
Rize held it's 4th show in Brisbane on 27/3/10. You can see all the results and photos at www.rizemma.com Chief Instructor Anthony Perosh attended the show with SPMA fighter Steven Micallef. Steven was supposed to fight but has surgery on his neck 31/3/10. We wish him all the best and a quick return to the mat and ring.

UFC 110 has come and gone. Over 17,000 people packed Acer Arena in Sydney on February 21st to watch a full international card.
SPMA Chief Instructor Anthony Perosh lost to Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic in the first televised fight. The referee stopped the fight at the end of round 2 after Anthony had a cut in his forehead. Anthony took the fight on 2 days notice and fought in a heavier weight division against one of the best heavyweights in the world. It was the first fight of a new 4 fight contract Anthony has with the UFC.
SPMA Chief Instructor Elvis Sinosic had to pull out of his fight on UFC 110 due to a right shoulder injury. Elvis was scheduled to fight fellow Aussie Chris Haseman who is based in Brisbane. It would have been a rematch of a fight the two had back in 1997 in Sydney. No replacement was found for Chris. Elvis may now face the possiblity of having surgery to repair his shoulder.

SPMA Chief Instructor was graded to 2nd degree black belt by Carlos Machado when Elvis visited Dallas recently. SPMA now has two 2nd degree black belts with Anthony & Elvis one of the highest ranked BJJ practitioners in Australia.
SPMA welcomes Adam Assuncao as a new instructor for Kids and beginners. He will be completing a Certificate III in Sports Coaching.
SPMA Concord and Liverpool have been professionally repainted and has had wall pads, cage panels and a wall mounted digital timer installed. Come and see the difference.

SPMA is back in full swing. We reopened 4th January after a 2 week break. All classes resume as normal. See you at training.
Chief Instructor Elvis Sinosic is fighting at UFC 110 on 21st February against Chris Haseman from Qld, Australia. Elvis is currently in Thailand completing 2 weeks of training and then will be off to the USA for 4 more weeks of training as part of his fight camp. He will be back mid February.
Chief Instructor Anthony Perosh is in Croatia for 7 days to do some MMA training with the Croatian fighters competing in UFC 110 in Sydney. Anthony will be back on Australia Day.
Robert Drysdale is a 6 time World BJJ Champion and BJJ coach to many top level UFC fighters. He will be doing BJJ seminars at SPMA at the end of January. These seminars are not to be missed.
